I am a Lucky Guy

I am a Lucky Guy – Growing Up in Dublin, Texas
I am a Lucky Guy, I have two older Brothers, who were always there for me, especially when I was small, and two pretty neat little Sisters, too.

When I was growing up in Dublin, Texas life was full. Everyday was like a new adventure, as I hear the neighbor boys ( Dutch, two Chinese and the Iranian ) outside now, They are laughing and playing, I again think of my childhood days, and some of my adventures and fond memories.

Seems my Brothers and I were always hanging together. With me being the Little Brother to the both of them I guess it could have been a pain for them to have to watch me, but I never heard a complaint.

Just like all brothers we would stickup for one another, too. There was one time when a neighborhood boy, decided to throw rocks at one of us, not sure which. Anyway Ken decided we would take care of this bully, and we loaded up the little red wagon with bricks and stones and we all three were going to take care of business. Until Mom caught us and stopped us from doing so. I think Dad would have let us go ahead.

Every now and again Texas weather can be really nice and comfortable, it was one of these days that I remember. It was either a spring or early fall night, the sky was clear and the stars were so bright and beautiful. The three of us were laying on the freshly mowed grass, with Ralph and i on either side of our Big Brother Kenneth, and he was telling us a story. I do not remember the story, so much as the time we spent on those mild evenings, and all of us being there together enjoying it.

My Brother Ken would usually drive old Blue Dad’s 49 Ford, but when he had saved enough he bought a 1940 Ford Sedan. The car was all black, and although it was real neat, what was even more special is that I would always get to hang around with him and his friends, when they were fixing it up. It was black and my Brother Kenneth, put this white pin stripping on it. Really cool, as he pain stakenly did it all by hand. He was always so good with stuff like that. I still have the little Tiki head he carved and painted for me, he also made one for Ralph, but his had a little body and legs. They were both cool, and if I remember correctly he made one to hang from his rearview mirror in his car.
