I found it interesting that in some cases our ancestors lived a few counties/provinces apart. No One would have realize the ultimate merger of their families years later. For Example, Moritz Klien (Cline) was born in Steinsel, which was part of Germany. It is now Steinsel, Luxembourg, just north Luxembourg (City), which is the Capital of the "Grand Duchy of Luxembourg").
Just over the border in the Northeast corner of France are the Regions of Alsace and Lorraine. Sometimes these regions are referred to together as Alsace-Lorraine.
Moritz's wife Anna Catharina Marzloff, was born in Postroff, in the Department of Moselle, in the Region of Lorraine, France, and his son Johann Sabastien Klien was born in the town of Hirschland, in the Department of Bas-Rhin, in the Region of Alsace, France. Charles Vincent Vauthier, my Great Grandfather, was born in the Commune of Hadol, in the Department of Vosges, in the region of Lorraine, France. All three of these cities and their respective Departments and Regions are located in North-Eastern France.
There are similar cases with our relatives after they were in America. Check out two of my Great Great Grandfathers for example. Ira Octavis Hurt, who is my Great Great Grandfather, 1845, Birthplace near Boonville, Cooper County, Missouri, and close proximity he had with James Monroe Boucher, who is my Great Great Grandfather, 1856, Birthplace , Lawrence County, Missouri. (note: You may also see them both by zooming in on the VR Relatives Birth Places map).
Hope you enjoy the Paths.
