As the war was heating up, so was thieving of horses. Gabrialappeared before Michael I Dickert (1739) on the day after Christmas1778 to declare on his oath, being duly sworn a deposition;a white horse of his property was taken the 26th day of Maythe same year from his plantation in the Ninety Six District.The horse was taken "by the order of Bernard Pope Esq and givenor delivered in the possession of Arthur Bear(d). One of theGang - or Comp. Supposing said the horse was intered in theservice of the last expedition to East Florida, under the Commandof Col. John Wern Eq, which said the horse was in service for77 days."

On April 19th 1782 in Charleston, South Carolina the LoyalistOfficers Petition was signed by eleven officers and submittedto the Right Honorable Lord George Germain for presentationto the Crown. Thomas Fletchall may have drafted this document,perhaps with the aid of Joseph Robinson (both are signatoriesherein). It provides the names of approximately 300 Loyalistswho were murdered by the Whigs during the Revolution. The letterhas been reduced and summarized for reading.
"TO THE KING'S MOST EXCELLENT MAJESTY MOST GRACIOUS SOVEREIGN"
The men write to London asking for assistance in support ofthe continuing an ongoing war to win over the rebellion. Theyfeel like they are refugees and anyone who has a hint or inklingof supporting the Majesty's government are murdered withouttrial. We do not believe His Grace is ignorant of the threehundred men who have been murdered by the rebellion. We suffergreat and wish a declaration of sentiments and that the Majesty'sbenevolent endeavor for the happiness of your People be crownedwith Success.
